The number one rule for keeping your child safe is to not let them do any dangerous things. But Gever Tulley thinks that letting kids do dangerous things helps them learn to not get hurt and use these dangerous things responsibly. Gever is an instructor at a tinkering school that teaches kids how to build things that they want to build. He talks about the five dangerous things that you should let your kids do.
The first dangerous thing for kids to do is to play with fire. When kids play with fire, they learn not to take it very lightly. They learn that playing with fire can be dangerous and can badly burn them. Fire helps kids learn about intake, combustion and exhaust. The second dangerous thing you let your kid do is own a pocket knife. Gever says that pocket knives are drifting out of our cultural consciousness. A pocket knife is a very powerful tool. Always cutting away from your body, keep the blade sharp, and never forcing the blade are simple rules that kids can understand and practice with. The third dangerous thing is to throw a spear. Gever says that part of the brain is used to throw things. Throwing things have helped the partial lobe of the brain. Throwing a spear can help your arms get stronger and help you with your physical and mental skills. The fourth dangerous thing is to deconstruct appliances. Breaking apart things is good for kids so that they could find out for themselves how to put them back together. Or they could get help from an adult. Having the puzzling mind of where a specific part goes can help kids find things that are broken and probably fix it again. The fifth and final thing to let your kids do is to let them break the digital millennium copyright act. This helps kids understand that laws could be broken by accident. This was my favorite talk out of all of the other TED talk videos. This video shows that you have to let your kids live life to the fullest. They have to have a little danger in their life so that they could learn more about responsibility in the future. I think that I know what matters the most to me. I like to build small models made out of anything that I can find in my house. It is one of my favorite hobbies to do when I am bored at home. Like in the video I watched, I can take things apart and put them back together again. It could help me learn more about fixing broken objects. I would absolutely recommend this video to anyone. It is very interesting to watch. I hope that I could have a similar project like this when I am in tenth grade. No other school project could top this one.

Sometimes when kids are in kindergarten, they are told what to do and have recces start and end at a specific time. They don't get as much freedom like what these kids from Tokyo get. An architect named Takaharu Tezuka Helped build a classroom that had trees, monkey bars, and a lot of room for kids to run, play, and have loads of fun.
Takaharu showed a slide show of kids playing, running, and screaming around their new classroom. It showed that the classroom was a place where kids can do anything that they want to do. Takaharu made the whole classroom into an oval shape with three floors. They use the top floor for when they want to run and play. They placed a tall tree in the classroom that goes through the ceiling. He said that they didn't correct kids from running too much or jump from places that they are not suppose to jump from. Takaharu said that if they get hurt, they learn from it. Takaharu showed a video of kids running in circles around their play area, jumping around and screaming. This showed that
The question "Are we alone?" is one of the most mysterious question that people have been asking for many years. Is there life in other planets in the solar system? Is there life beyond the solar system? People assume that people could live in planets like Mars because of the atmosphere in the planet.
Nathalie Cabrol doesn't talk about how we can live in Mars, but she talks about something that in my opinion is the most interesting subject about Mars. Nathalie tells us about how Mars had the secrets to the origin of life. She starts off with the question "Are we alone?" and "Is there life beyond the Solar System?". Then she talks about how there could have been life in Mars. Minerals, organic molecules, and fossils were found in the surface of Mars. This makes me ask if there was human or animal life on Mars. Nathalie stated that there was oceans, volcanoes, and deltas billions of years ago. She tells us that we can actually use Earth's climate and natural disasters as a time machine to see how Mars would have looked and felt like billions of years ago. Her team went to the Andes and used all of the mountains, lakes, minerals, and hot springs as an idea of what Mars looked like many years ago. Just like what Mars use to be, the climate was drastically changing. In the lakes they swam was full of life. There was algae and fishes in the lake. She said that these could hold the secret of how Earth was formed. This TED talk video was at first very boring because I am not much of a fan of space and Earth science. Like the last time, I had to watch the video again and this time it was interesting. I learned fascinating facts about how Mars had at one point, oceans and volcanoes along with fossils and organic objects that make up life on Earth today. So far I still like this project. By far, my favorite project I had this year. I still have not found what matters to me, but I am still hopeful that I will find it soon.
I have never physically been in jail, and I don't plan on going. I have heard the horror stories of staying in prison for years involving violence and humiliation. This happened with Ismael Nazario.
Ismael has spent at least two years in a New York state prison for committing a robbery. He described screaming at the top of his lungs for help while in his cell door. He also described how a person staying in one cell can cause a person to walk back and forth and start talking to themselves because there is not much to do while in prison walls. One time he talked about an old cell mate named Monroe. He pulled Ismael away from his housing unit. Monroe punched him in the chest but Ismael did not react or became impulsive. He just gave Monroe a stare that looked as if he was going to fight back. But he didn't. Bad people was not the only thing that Ismael has seen. He has seen one of the most intelligent people that he has ever met. He would see people with potato chip bags and turn it into the most artistic picture he ever saw. He even described the mini sculptures and arts that many prisoners made make Michelangelo's art look like a kindergartner made it. While Ismael was in solitary confinement, he read anything that he could find. He would write poems, songs, or anything that would keep the time moving for him. He then talked about who we should or should not hang out with. A specific group of people that you hang out with can either lead you to a bright future, or to a prison cell. So far, I think that this TED talk is my favorite. It is interesting and teaches me to actually do something professional with my life instead of committing crimes and robbery that will screw up my life. I enjoyed when he described how he has seen very artistic and intelligent people. these people have been locked up in prison for most of their life, they had a lot of time to themselves to create or come up with these works of art. I especially liked how this came from someone who actually witnessed this all instead of coming from a secondary source. At first, I thought that this TED talk project was going to be another one of those boring projects. I was even planning on not even doing it and just get the zero on my grade. But I gave it a shot and watched the first video, and it was actually interesting. I had to watch the video again to actually appreciate it. Right when I'm done posting and publishing this blog, I'm going to start right away on my second one. Still, I don't know what matters to me. But I'm sure that I will find it. Hey there, Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Josue Salazar, I was born in Queens, New York. I grew up in Orlando, Florida along with my parents and three sisters. I go to West Orange High School in Orange County. Anyway, our English teacher is making us do a project that involves writing your own blog. We have to watch at least five TEDx videos. After watching a video, I would write a reflection on what I think of the TEDx video. My English teacher also told us to think of what matters the most to me and write it in my blog. So far, I don't know what matters the most to me or my interests. Hopefully, I can find what matters to me while watching these videos.
